In Border Music 5 endless barbed wire belts are the score and the players of a kind of music box.
Each barb in each belt is a “note” in the music box, the distance between the barbs determines the rhythm and the relation between the barbs in the 5 belts composes the music of the piece.
The belts have different lengths so the music changes continuously.
Here, sound and object are not just elements of the same work that are coordinated with one other, rather, they are mutually dependent, the composition is not applied to the sound object, but is inscribed into it as a material aspect.
